Three members of Justin Haley’s squad are suspended by NASCAR

The No. 31 Kaulig Racing team of Justin Haley became NASCAR’s first repeat violator of the loose wheel policy this season.

Trent Owens, Haley’s crew chief, and crew members Jonpatrick Kealey and Marshall McFadden were suspended by NASCAR on Tuesday for the next four races, including this weekend’s All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway.

On Lap 39 of last Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway, Haley’s No. 31 Chevrolet’s left rear wheel came loose.

“Sections Loss or separation of an incorrectly placed tire/wheel from the vehicle” is the rule that was broken.

NASCAR has suspended eight different teams nine times this season for having wheels come free during Cup Series races.

Haley’s club is the season’s first repeat offender. Three crew members were suspended for four weeks after the No. 31 lost a wheel at the season-opening Daytona 500.

For the 2022 season, NASCAR will use center-locking wheels with a single lug nut.
